Your health during vacation

This is an old post.

ORANJESTAD – The summer holiday season has arrived, and many have planned their vacation, whether it is a recreational, exotic, or medical trip.

Ensure you are well informed about different aspects of the country you will visit, such as the country's climate, altitude, hygiene aspects, water quality, diseases present in the country, and how to protect yourself from them. Many encounter health problems during their vacation after consuming contaminated food. It can lead to vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, and fever.

For this reason, the Public Health Department (DVG) advises that when eating during vacation, wash your hands well beforehand, eat freshly cooked food and not food that has been sitting for a long time, drink bottled water, wash fruit with bottled water, or preferably eat fruit that you have to peel yourself.

Another danger for travelers is insects that transmit diseases like viruses or bacteria that can make people sick. To avoid getting infected with diseases like Dengue, Chikungunya, Zika, or others, DVG advises wearing long pants, long-sleeved blouses or shirts, and using insect repellent.

Plan your vacation. If you suffer from a chronic illness, consult your doctor before traveling, and if you use medication, make sure to bring extra. Find out if the country you are visiting requires travelers to have certain vaccinations. For more information, contact the Contagious Diseases Section at the Department for Public Health via tel. 522-4239 / 522-4241/ 522-4200 of e-mail address admindbz@dvg.aw

Travelers must take out travel insurance, as the AZV does not provide medical coverage abroad during vacations. Vacations are always enjoyable. Please take precautions to keep it that way.
