World Environment Day 2025
ORANJESTAD - June 5 is World Environment Day, which is celebrated every year. A day to reflect on the importance of our nature and environment. This year, we are once again focusing on the theme of combating plastic pollution.
Aruba, an island heavily dependent on tourism, needs to be more aware of the effect that plastic has on our natural resources, which are the core of our economy. For this reason, the Department of Nature and Environment(DNM) has joined the United Nations program to emphasize the urgency of combating plastic pollution. On today's World Environment Day, DNM shares some tips that each of us can apply in our daily lives to contribute to the restoration of Aruba's environment.
- Reduce the use of single-use plastic. Opt for reusable products such as shopping bags.
- Participate in or organize a cleanup event on the beach, in the neighborhood, between neighborhoods, etc.
- Avoid takeout, dine in, or prepare your meal.
- Save some water. For example, water from the AC can be used to water plants.
- Plant trees and take care of nature’s vegetation everywhere. Contributing to the reforestation of Aruba. It also improves the quality of our soil. We ask that you avoid harvesting Neem as it is an aggressive invasive plant. It eliminates the plants that are endemic to our nature.
- Support local conservation activities. Support organizations that work to protect our environment.
- Promote recycling. Give an old article that you no longer use a new use. Separate waste to support recycling programs.
