Working visit to the Shaba police station
ORANJESTAD – On January 8, 2026, the Minister of Justice, Mr. Arthur Dowers, paid a working visit to the Shaba police station, where he was given a tour by the Northern District Commander, Inspector Raquel Ras.
Minister Dowers also held brief conversations with other staff members in Shaba, including personnel from the Criminal Investigation Department, the Narcotics Unit, and other officers present. The Minister of Justice also inspected the cell block and spoke with several inmates who were outside during their air time.
The visit highlighted the state of maintenance of the Shaba police station. A large number of confiscated cars, mopeds, and bicycles are located on the premises, creating an unhygienic environment for the police officers working there.
Minister Dowers lamented that a public building serving the community is suffering from a lack of maintenance, both to the building itself and to the surrounding grounds, which are overgrown with weeds and unnecessary materials.
