ORANJESTAD - Wikimedia Commons, also known as Wikipedia's media bank, celebrated its 20th anniversary on Saturday, September 7. Since its launch in 2004, Wikimedia Commons has become one of the largest and most diverse media libraries worldwide.
Wikimedia Commons contains over a hundred million photos, illustrations, 3D models, and audio and video files that are freely available to everyone.

Wikimedia Commons was founded by volunteers on September 7, 2004, as a central archive for freely available media files. Because all media files on Wikipedia come from Wikimedia Commons, it is also called Wikipedia's media bank. The official owner is the Wikimedia Foundation, an American non-profit organization that also owns Wikipedia.
Biblioteca Nacional Aruba has donated the Meiners photo collection (397 photos) with colorful images that portray life in Aruba from the 1950s to the 1980s. The photo collection of Dr. Arthur Meiners (a doctor employed by the LAGO refinery) shows a unique image of Aruba in the period 1955-1985 in color. Dr. Meiners is currently 99 years old and lives in the Netherlands. The collection is part of Coleccion Aruba of the Nacional Library.
