Travel Tips
ORANJESTAD – Summer school vacation has begun, and many families are heading abroad.
The Department of Public Health offers the following recommendations to ensure your vacation goes smoothly and you can enjoy a relaxing, worry-free trip:
- Research various aspects of your destination country: the climate, altitude, hygiene standards, water quality, prevalent diseases, and how to protect yourself against them.
- Wash your hands thoroughly before eating; eat freshly prepared food and avoid food that has been sitting out for a long time.
- Drink bottled water, wash fruit with bottled water, or eat fruit that you can peel yourself.
- Consult your doctor before traveling if you have a chronic medical condition, and make sure to bring extra medication.
- Find out whether your destination country requires or recommends specific vaccinations.
- Stay alert to insects that transmit diseases (use insect repellent, for example).
- For your own peace of mind and the safety of your family, do not forget to purchase travel insurance.
