The Police Force is raising awareness about a troubling trend in scams.
ORANJESTAD—The Police Force wants to inform and raise awareness of everyone about the trend of "scams" that is happening lately.
Please note the following information that KPA will share. It is important to pay attention to this case or similar cases.
Someone will post on social networks that they will have a car for sale. He does not live in Aruba. He supposedly had to go to his country and left a car behind that he has for sale.
The interested party must send the payment using a service that facilitates international fund transfers. After the car's owner receives the payment code, he claims he will send someone to deliver the car to the buyer. This NEVER happens!
Police warn everyone to be vigilant and avoid falling for scams.
Here are some tips to help you avoid falling into scams:
- DO NOT send money for a car that you have not seen or tested;
- Be more aware of what you buy on social networks;
- DO NOT send any information about you, such as your bank account or personality, to a fake or unknown person;
- Watch for fake profiles on social networks, such as fake names or fake photos.
- If there are indications that you may be a victim of a scam, file a complaint with the investigation.
Let us be more aware and pay attention to such cases.
If you have any information and wish to remain anonymous, call the police hotline at 11141.
