The illegal use of electric steps, bicycles, and scooters is not allowed on public roads
ORANJESTAD - The Ministry of Justice, Integration, Public Transportation, and Energy informs that it will not tolerate the illegal use of electric vehicles such as e-bikes, e-steps, and e-scooters on public roads.
According to the National Road Traffic Ordinance (AB 1997 no.18), all vehicles that function as motor vehicles (gasoline, diesel, gas, electric, etc.) must comply with technical, registration, and insurance requirements to be on public roads. Based on the General Police Ordinance (APV art. 15 & 23), police can confiscate any vehicle that occupies public space without permission or that hinders traffic.
Electric vehicles that do not comply with legal and technical standards are not allowed on sidewalks, roads, or other public spaces. The decision is based on the principle of public safety and respect for our laws.
With this announcement, the Ministry of Justice, Integration, Public Transportation, and Energy warns that there will be consequences for non-compliance.
