The government introduces financial support for children requiring intensive care.

ORANJESTAD—The Ministry of Health and Social Affairs organized an informative and interactive session to introduce financial support for children with disabilities, intended for children requiring intensive care.

The session was part of efforts to strengthen the social sector for vulnerable families in Aruba.

As part of the revision of the social security system under the Land Package, the government is working on a more humane, modern, and fairer model.

Financial support for children with disabilities is an essential step in providing dignity, stability, and support to families with children requiring intensive care.

This measure acknowledges that intensive care presents unique challenges for families, which require recognition, support, and equal opportunities.

In 2021, Members of Parliament Melvin Wyatt-Ras and Mike Eman, who are currently the Minister of Health and Social Affairs and Prime Minister, proposed the introduction of financial support for children with disabilities in Aruba. It formed the legal basis for this support. The new law creates certainty and clear rights for families who depend on continuous care.

The financial support is for children up to 18 years old, registered in the population register, with physical, mental, psychological, or behavioral disabilities who require intensive care.

The support offers financial assistance to parents or guardians and is for additional care, care aids, transportation, or home modifications (such as ramps, toilets, etc.).

The government reaffirms its commitment to the further development of a stronger, humane, and inclusive social system that provides genuine support to families with children requiring intensive care.
