The government and relevant departments continue to monitor weather conditions.
ORANJESTAD – On Tuesday morning, the government provided an update on the current weather situation to keep the community informed about possible heavy rainfall that could affect the island.
The Crisis Management Office (CMO) and the Aruba Meteorological Department (DMA) are in ongoing communication and actively monitoring the development of Tropical Storm Melissa. According to current forecasts, weather conditions are expected to remain unstable for the next few days.
Prime Minister Mike Eman stayed in close contact over the weekend to assess the situation and determine whether a press conference was necessary to provide an update on the developing weather system in the region. Around 11:00 a.m., information was received confirming that the system had been upgraded to a tropical storm, a development that had already been anticipated last Friday.
Although the storm's trajectory is well north of Aruba, no direct impact is anticipated. Nonetheless, the community is encouraged to remain vigilant and aware of potential side effects that may arise in the coming days.
Past experiences have shown that storms passing near the region can still cause significant damage due to their indirect effects. For this reason, the government remains vigilant and advises the community to stay informed of any changes in weather conditions.
Residents should be aware of potential wind shifts and rough sea conditions that could occur with the passing storm. Fortunately, the most severe weather is expected to remain north of the island.
The Prime Minister extended his solidarity and condolences to our sister islands and other territories in the region currently experiencing heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning.
The public is encouraged to stay updated and remain vigilant for any possible developments.
