The former Public Prosecutor's Office building will become a student housing complex.

This is an old post.

ORANJESTAD - The government of Aruba officially launched, on February 28, 2024, the project to convert the former Public Prosecutor's Office (OM) building in Oranjestad into a student housing complex. This project is part of various initiatives to revitalize downtown Oranjestad.

Part of the government's vision is to encourage more people to live in downtown Oranjestad and convert abandoned buildings into student dormitories.

Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes, who is in charge of DIP, which manages Aruba's properties, and the Minister of Economic Affairs Geoffrey Wever met with FCCA, which has shown interest in purchasing the property and converting it into a "student flat" - a complex of rooms for students.

For the government to comply with legal provisions, other interested parties must also be allowed to object to the government's intention for the building. Therefore, it announced this intention on February 27.

If students live in downtown Oranjestad, they can easily walk to the University of Aruba and bring new dynamics to downtown Oranjestad.

The government and private sector collaboration is an example of how urban planning and sustainable development can work together for the community's benefit. This joint effort is essential for the success of this project, combining resources and expertise to achieve a common goal.
