The Ambassadors and Consul of Belgium met with the Prime Minister
ORANJESTAD - On Friday, March 15, 2024, Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes met with the Ambassador of Belgium in the Netherlands, Mrs. Anick Van Calster, the Ambassador of Belgium in Colombia, Mr. Bert Schoofs and the Honorary Consul of the CAS (Curaçao, Aruba, and Sint Maarten) and BES (Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba,) Mr. Jan van Belleghem.
The ambassadors are in Aruba to meet with the Belgian community of approximately 200 people residing in Aruba. However, the visit is primarily to strengthen and further improve the ties between Belgium and Aruba.
Aruba has a strong bond with Belgium due to the new technical faculty of the University of Aruba SISSTEM, developed in collaboration with KU Leuven, the University of Leuven, Belgium. It brings Belgium and Aruba much closer together and thus creates more and better opportunities for Aruba.
Another indication of the sound relationship with Belgium is that several Aruban students study there, and Aruba has had solid commercial ties with Belgium for quite some time. The meeting was fruitful, focusing on the opportunities Belgium has to help diversify and grow Aruba's economy to become stronger and more resilient.
