The Agriculture Project at primary schools has started

This is an old post.

ORANJESTAD - The Ministry of Nature is proud to initiate the project of syntrophic agroforestry at primary schools.

Across 13 schools in Aruba, they will tend a vegetable garden where children from first to sixth grade will learn to plant, care for, and harvest different types of plants.
The project is a collaboration between Santa Rosa, Living Soil Aruba, and the Ministry of Nature, and started on Saturday, January 20, at Washington Primary School. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., children, under guidance, planted various crops in the vegetable garden. Each school will first receive a workshop from Living Soil, while Santa Rosa prepares the space, equipment, and materials in advance. Once ready, they will plant different vegetable and fruit crops with the help of schools and volunteers.
The project's objective is to provide our youth with tools that will assist them in the future and, in turn, strengthen our primary sector. Children will learn about sustainable nutrition and agriculture. The fact that they are taught outside the classroom, using their hands, is invaluable for their development. Our youth is the future of our island, which is a focus of the Ministry of Nature. Therefore, a valuable educational initiative for our youth in agriculture contributes to an additional economic pillar for our island.
Minister of Nature, Ursell Arends, calls upon the community of Aruba to contribute. Everyone is welcome to assist the schools in establishing their vegetable gardens. With the support of our community, we can provide our children with a beautiful project that will offer them opportunities for the future.
