Student housing in Oranjestad will become a reality.

This is an old post.

ORANJESTAD - On August 27, 2024, Minister of Economic Affairs, Communication, and Sustainable Development Geoffrey Wever symbolically transferred the former building of the Public Prosecution Service (OM), located behind ZARA, to the Cas Pa Comunidad Arubano Foundation (FCCA), which will convert it into student housing.

Part of the government's vision is to have more people living and frequenting Oranjestad Main Street. Restoration of the city center's abandoned buildings is essential to achieving this aim. As the owner of several buildings in the city center, the government took the first step in the desired direction. However, support from the private sector is crucial to achieve the transformation of our main street.

FCCA will convert the former OM building into 19 student housing units for those interested in establishing themselves in the city center in a new and accessible space. There will also be three commercial spaces available in the same building. This project is an FCCA investment of approximately 4.5 million Florins.

Oranjestad deserves to return to its glory days when commerce flourished, and the government is doing its part to act as a catalyst for this.
