ORANJESTAD – Recently, the Minister of Justice, Integration, Public Transportation and Energy, Mr. Arthur Dowers, welcomed Mr. Camilo Cardenas, Director of Business Development Government Americas at SITA, a global leader in technological solutions for the aviation industry.
During the visit, Mr. Cardenas outlined SITA’s role and its Advanced Passenger Information (API) system, emphasizing how technological innovation can contribute to the modernization of the immigration process at Queen Beatrix International Airport. The meeting focused on modern solutions such as automated gates, control checkpoints, and the use of biometrics, with the goal of making passenger flow faster, safer, and more efficient.
A modern and well-structured immigration process is essential for Aruba, not only to strengthen national security but also to enhance the experience of both visitors and residents. Innovation in immigration is not a luxury, but a strategic necessity for a country with a tourism-driven economy and international connections like Aruba.
Mr. Cardenas shared SITA’s international experience and examples of API and biometric technologies that have been successfully implemented at airports worldwide, while respecting privacy standards and operating within each country’s legal framework. Collaboration between the government and the technology sector is essential to achieving sustainable and reliable solutions.
This visit marks an important step in the Ministry of Justice’s vision to further explore opportunities for innovation and digitalization within the border control chain. The ultimate goal is to develop a modern, people-oriented, and future-ready immigration system.
On behalf of the Ministry of Justice, strategic dialogues with international partners will continue in order to evaluate concrete opportunities that may benefit Aruba and its community, with the interests of our country and the safety of our people always taking priority.
