Signing Ceremony for the Establishment of the Bernhardstraat Revitalization Foundation

ORANJESTAD – On September 6, the official signing ceremony for the establishment of the Bernhardstraat Revitalization Foundation took place.

During the event, Mrs. Inky Richardson, mr. John Hassell, and Mr. Castello Lispier formally signed the act to create the foundation, whose task is to revitalize Bernhardstraat and give the street a complete facelift.

Prime Minister Mike Eman, together with Chris James of the Ministry of General Affairs, attended the ceremony at Chocolate City Restaurant in San Nicolas to witness the signing.
The foundation’s primary goal is to restore the houses along Bernhardstraat, bringing them back as closely as possible to their original condition. The project will focus on the area stretching from the Watertoren to the Lagoweg intersection. These homes will be renovated in the picturesque Caribbean style, using vibrant colors that reflect the authentic warmth and character of the San Nicolas community.

Prime Minister Eman emphasized that the government will support the foundation by helping connect it with residents and encouraging collaboration with the private sector to restore and beautify the homes. Additionally, the government will upgrade public infrastructure along the street—such as sidewalks and greenery—to further enhance its appeal and support the foundation’s mission.

Given the large number of people who pass through Bernhardstraat on their way to Baby Beach, Rodger’s Beach, and surrounding areas, the street’s revitalization will not only improve the neighborhood but also offer visitors a welcoming introduction to the unique charm of San Nicolas.

The Bernhardstraat project marks only the beginning. Revitalization efforts will expand to other streets in the near future, as San Nicolas continues to grow. With its thriving art scene, authentic cuisine, colorful architecture, beautiful beaches, and ongoing development, San Nicolas is poised to become a vibrant tourism hub deeply rooted in its history and culture.
