SIDS Conference concluded
ORANJESTAD - The fourth United Nations "Small Island Developing States" (SIDS) conference recently took place, with more than 3500 participants. The UN holds the SIDS conference every ten years, and Antigua & Barbuda hosted it this year.
Small countries can express their concerns and share solutions and opportunities during this event. The Prime Minister of Aruba, Evelyn Wever-Croes, led the delegation of the Kingdom, which consisted of the Prime Minister of Curaçao, Mr. Pisas, the Minister Plenipotentiary of Sint Maarten, Mr. Gumbs, and the Minister of Economy of Curaçao, Mr. Cijntje.
During the meetings, they emphasized the challenges faced by SIDS countries. The focus was mainly on climate change, how SIDS countries like Aruba can prepare, and where they need support. Additionally, they addressed the themes of poverty and post-pandemic recovery.
It is significant that after the meetings, all promises and commitments are translated into action to tackle the challenges faced by each country.
