Restructuring of Government personnel moving in the right direction

This is an old post.

ORANJESTAD - On Monday, February 5, 2024, Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes met with the Department for Human Resources (DRH) representatives.

The DRH gave a presentation of the initial conclusions of the study on the restructuring of government personnel. The study takes time and will yield significant results for Aruba.

The goal is to make the public sector personnel more efficient and improve service to the community. Within this framework, two major projects are underway, namely the restructuring of government personnel and the e-government project.

According to the Prime Minister, for the work related to the restructuring of government personnel as agreed in the reform agreements under the Landspakket, the PM has agreed with the Netherlands that they will assist, and the Netherlands has committed to Pricewaterhouse Coopers to conduct the study on how to optimize the government personnel. The work has already begun, and meetings were held with all government departments. The first result is ready, and on February 5th, the Prime Minister received a preliminary presentation from DRH.

The study considers various tasks, including tasks that should be performed by the departments according to the law and which should not. They also assessed the tasks the government can privatize and which to discontinue. The study concluded which tasks should be kept and which not, and how to restructure.

The departments that resort under the Ministry of General Affairs and Infrastructure are involved in this process, and the DRH has reviewed the conclusions of the study together with the Prime Minister. Based on these conclusions, the next phase will involve making concrete proposals on which tasks, among others, it can privatize to restructure the government personnel and make it more efficient.

The government personnel needs to become more efficient, with sufficient qualified staff and all necessary resources to provide the community of Aruba with the best possible service.
