Restoration of the Juliana and Queen Beatrix Schools

ORANJESTAD – On August 26, the government announced plans to restore two historic buildings in Aruba: the Juliana School and the Queen Beatrix School.

During the ceremony, Prime Minister Mike Eman addressed the public, attended by the Minister of Infrastructure, Energy and Telecommunications, Mr. Gervais R. Herdé and thr Minister of Kingdom Relations, Education, Youth, Innovation and Sports Mrs. mr. Gerlien L. Croes,, former principals, guests, and the architects responsible for the project. He explained the purpose, vision, and approach for the restoration and renovation work at both schools.

He also announced the new phase in the project: the Monuments Planning Bureau, located in the former Science & Technology classroom of the Juliana School, will be responsible for the design and planning of the restoration. The emotional and historical value of the buildings, located in a neighborhood where many former teachers and students once lived, will be explicitly taken into account.

By initiating this work, the government aims to instill confidence that these valuable monuments will be restored and that their unique place in the community will be preserved.
