Modern and Professional Rental Committee
In 2021, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, put a plan into action to modernize and elevate the Rent Commission. It came across an organization at the time that had a lot of backlogs and was not paying enough attention to provide the citizens with acceptable service.
Under this framework, they amended the law to improve the functioning of the Rent Commission and introduced a job description for the new members and secretary. It allowed for the recruitment of new members openly and transparently. With external help, they caught up with the backlog in all the Rent Commission pending cases. It also invested in the organization to improve internal processes by developing standardized formats, templates, and work instructions. It is to safeguard the stability, transparency, and efficiency of the Rent Commission and ensure the management of the legal and regulatory process relating to rent is fair and effective.
Affordable rent
The Rent Commission is based in the center of Oranjestad and is an organization that citizens can count on. Minister Wever thanked the Rent Committee Chair, Monica Kock, its members, the Secretary, and SEDECO for their good work.
