Renovation work in Mabon officially begins

ORANJESTAD – On October 23, 2025, the large-scale renovation and maintenance work on the social housing complex in Mabon officially began.

Prime Minister Mike Eman, along with FCCA Director Julie Wever and representatives of the contractors, attended the start of the work.

The renovation includes painting the entire building, strengthening the concrete structure between the buildings, and ensuring that the construction meets all safety and quality standards. The doors and windows of all apartments will also be replaced.

Prime Minister Eman announced that other neighborhoods, including Bushiri and De Vuyst, will soon be renovated and improved. According to FCCA Director Wever, this approach fits within a broader collaboration between FCCA and the government to future-proof residential areas.

"This renovation is an example of how we work together with the government to renew neighborhoods and strengthen communities," said Wever. “By regularly visiting each neighborhood, we bring residents together in a more holistic way and build healthy, sustainable communities.”

The neighborhood renewal plans are laid out in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), in which FCCA and the government have made agreements on closer collaboration and regular maintenance. “We want to move away from one-off projects,” said Wever. “By making clear agreements, we can achieve more and sustainably improve the quality of life in the neighborhoods.”

Aruba currently has 45 FCCA neighborhoods, each with its own challenges. The government is committed to an approach that goes beyond just housing, focusing on community building, livability, and future prospects.
