Reminder: The deadline for the payment of motor vehicle tax is January 31, 2024
ORANJESTAD - The Tax Department (DIMP) reminds taxpayers that the deadline for the payment of motor vehicle tax for 2024 is January 31, 2024.
For 2024, the Tax Department will not issue new license plates, so all motorists must continue to use the red/white license plates from 2020 to 2024. The rate for motor vehicle tax in 2024 remains the same as for 2023; there is no change in the rate. The amount of tax is stated on the motor vehicle registration document that the owner received at the vehicle registration.
Costs of the license plates
Existing taxpayers do not have to pay the costs of the license plates since there are no new license plates for 2024. Only new taxpayers who have just registered a car and need a new license plate must pay the costs of the license plates, which are Afl.14,- for the large license plates and Afl. 10,- for the small license plates for 2024. For motorcycles, a license plate costs Afl. 10.
You can pay the tax at the main office in Camacuri, MFA Noord, MFA Paradera, MFA Santa Cruz, MFA Savaneta, and also at the office in San Nicolas, located in the San Nicolas post office building. You can only pay with a debit card at one of the DIMP offices, Only non-commercial individuals aged 60 and over and those receiving welfare can pay their taxes in cash at Camacuri. Note that you can not pay the tax for 2024 if you did not fully pay the tax for 2023.
Payment arrangement
Those who owe taxes for previous years up to 2022 can get a payment arrangement. The procedure is the same as when arranging a payment plan for other taxes. Contact the assigned officer to start the process. It is important to note that you can not make a payment arrangement for the motor vehicle tax of 2023.
Online payment via the bank
The recommendation is to pay online via the bank using the "Bill Payment" method. Through Bill Payment, online payment transactions via Aruba Bank, Banco di Caribe, or Caribbean Mercantile Bank are processed in the DIMP system within one day. Payments via other banks take at least five working days to be registered with the DIMP administration. Taxpayers who do not use Bill Payment must provide a detailed description for DIMP to process the payment correctly.
The taxpayer provides the following information: personal number-period-license plate number, for example 50001234-2023-A92345. In case of outstanding debts from previous years, the payment will first be offset against these debts, and the remainder against the tax of 2023.
If you pay more than one license plate via the bank, you must make a separate payment transaction for each license plate. You can not pay a single sum in one transaction, as this would cause delays in processing and allocating the payment to each corresponding license plate.
Request an online payment receipt
Every taxpayer who pays online via the bank can request the payment receipt from the Tax Department online via the link: https://www.impuesto.aw/uw-digitale-formulieren-snel-invullen. Then choose the option: Application for a motor vehicle tax receipt. DIMP will then send the payment receipt to the taxpayer by email.
Penalty for late payment
Payments received after January 31, 2024, are considered late. Payments made on January 31, 2023, after the bank's cutoff time, will be processed the next day and considered late. For the cutoff time of each bank, you can consult the respective bank website. In the case of late payment, you must also pay the penalty for late payment. The penalty is 50% of the unpaid amount.
Example:
Tax for the year Afl. 300,00
Tax for half a year Afl. 150,00
If not paid for the first half-year of Afl. 150,00 before January 31, 2024, the penalty for late payment is Afl. 75,00. In this case, the customer's debt for the first half-year of 2024 is Afl. 225,00 (150,00+75,00).
DIMP recommends paying the tax as soon as possible and not waiting until the last moment. For more information, you can visit the following link: https://www.impuesto.aw/motorrijtuigbelasting-betalen
