Prime Minister discusses women's position with CEDEHM

This is an old post.

ORANJESTAD - The Prime Minister, Mrs. Evelyn Wever-Croes, recently met with CEDEHM (Center for Women's Development) on various topics.

CEDEHM has conducted an in-depth study that has provided information on women's profile in Aruba in 2024.

The results of this study show in which areas women in Aruba are more active. In some areas, the figures are positive, such as the fact that more than 40% of the managers in Aruba are women. However, the data also shows that only 15% of the registered company directors are women, according to the Chamber of Commerce registration. Based on this data, it is clear that there is still much room for improvement in Aruba.

Another important topic discussed during the meeting with CEDEHM is the SIDS conference that will take place in late May 2024 in Antigua and Barbuda. The United Nations organizes the Small Island Developing States Conference, which takes place every ten years. SIDS conferences specifically aim at small countries to give them the necessary attention, as small countries often receive limited attention during larger conferences where all countries participate.

Aruba will play a significant role in this conference, organizing a two-day conference on the theme of women's position together with UN Women, the UN organization focusing on women's rights. Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes will deliver the opening speech at this conference. For this reason, the government is working with CEDEHM on the key issues to discuss.

CEDEHM is tasked with leading a committee focused on addressing women's abuse, a crucial issue where efforts are heading in the right direction.
