Policy for Bedridden or Wheelchair-Bound Patients Receiving the Influenza Vaccine
ORANJESTAD — To help prevent complications or deaths from influenza among individuals who are bedridden or have limited mobility, the Department of Public Health (DVG) is offering a special annual influenza vaccination service.
This service is available either at home or by car for patients who are unable to visit the Department for Infectious Diseases to get the vaccine.
All bedridden individuals aged six months and older are eligible to receive the influenza vaccine completely free of charge. The only requirement is proof of AZV insurance.
Families who wish for their bedridden relatives to receive the annual vaccine can contact the Infectious Diseases section of DVG at 522-4200 to register. A team of DVG nurses will then visit the home by appointment to administer the vaccination.
For patients with limited mobility, such as those in wheelchairs, DVG provides a drive-through vaccination service.
- Individuals aged 60 and older need only present their AZV card.
- Individuals under 60 years old must present a doctor’s prescription along with their AZV card.
This service is available at the Infectious Diseases Section, located at Avicenastraat #1 (behind the DVG building), Monday through Friday from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Upon arrival, a relative or caregiver should go inside to complete the administrative process. A DVG nurse will then come outside to administer the vaccine while the patient remains comfortably in the car.
Older adults living in nursing homes will be vaccinated at their place of residence, upon request from family members.
