Pioneer in tourism, Mr. Michael Kuiperi received the Recognition of Excellence

This is an old post.

ORANJESTAD - On May 15, 2024, the Minister of Finance and Culture, Mrs. Xiomara Maduro, together with the Minister of Labor, Energy, and Integration, Mr. Glenbert Croes, on behalf of Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes, welcomed one of the pioneers in Aruba's tourism industry, Mr. Michael Kuiperi, to present him with the Recognition of Excellence from the Government of Aruba.

Mr. Michael Kuiperi was the first CEO of the Aruba Tourism Office and ensured a solid foundation for the tourism industry development in Aruba. Thanks to his vision, courage, creativity, and hard work, Aruba achieved a place on the international map as a tourist destination. Mr. Kuiperi was instrumental in organizing the first flights from the US to Aruba via Puerto Rico, laying the groundwork for the various direct flights that followed from the US to Aruba.

Mr. Kuiperi worked tirelessly to put Aruba's culture, music, and local artists on the international tourism map, thereby making tourists curious to visit Aruba. Thanks to his pioneering work in connecting tourism and Aruba's culture, tourists today are not only drawn by the "Sun, Sea, or Sand" but are more interested in the "Soul" of Aruba, which is the culture of our country.

Minister Maduro expressed her gratitude and presented Mr. Michael Kuiperi with this special recognition from the Government of Aruba in the presence of Minister Glenbert Croes and Mr. Kuiperi's grandson, Mr. Michael Leo van Rommondt.
