Photo Exposition ‘Framing Social Problems and Solutions’ at Biblioteca Nacional Aruba
ORANJESTAD - The Department of Social Work and Development in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Aruba hosts a 'Framing Social Problems and Solutions, Photo Exposition.'
The event will be officially opened at the Biblioteca Nacional Aruba on Monday 26 May 2025. This student activity is part of the Latin America and Caribbean Social Issues course in the Bachelor's program for Social Work and Development at the University of Aruba. In this course, students become familiar with social problems in Aruba and apply sociological theories to explain their causes and to find sustainable solutions. Students received training in photography and were required to take photos of a social problems in Aruba, the Caribbean, or Latin America, and a photo of the solution to the problem. These photos are displayed in the exhibition.
Objectives of the Framing Social Problems and Solutions Photo Exposition
- Students use sociological theories to explain social problems and solutions in Aruba, Latin America, and the rest of the Caribbean islands.
- Students use photography to engage in social action and promote solutions for social problems and change.
- Students demonstrate a commitment to social problem analysis from multiple sociological theoretical perspectives.
The Exhibition
The Exhibition shall be open to the public until June 18, 2025 at the Biblioteca Nacional Aruba. In collaboration with experts, students will facilitate a public conversation on 'Innovative Solutions to Poverty in Aruba, Latin America, and the Caribbean' on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at 7:00 pm.
