Park Expansion: Part of the Oranjestad beautification and reforestation project

ORANJESTAD - On the corner of Adrian Lacle Boulevard, an important project of expansion and beautification of the existing park is currently taking place, as part of a broader plan of reforestation and revitalization of the city center.

Prime Minister Mike Eman indicated that this expansion serves not only as a physical improvement of public space, but also as a place of memory for those who lost their lives during World War II. The renovated park will combine history, nature, and community in one space.

A notable aspect of the project is its preparation in commemoration of March 18, the day Aruba will celebrate 40 years of its Status Aparte. This date also coincides with the King’s visit to Aruba. The goal is to have the park ready by this date.

More than 100 children will participate in the project, planting nearly two hundred trees on the expansion area. This initiative is part of a national reforestation program in which young people will actively participate, alongside the King, in planting trees as a symbol of sustainability and a brighter future.

The project is being implemented by Dienst Openbare Werken (DOW), which is developing the work in-house. This allows for more direct and efficient management of resources and planning. He expressed satisfaction that the DOW team has become increasingly professional and committed over the years.

The goal of the renovated park is not only to enhance the beauty of the area but also to support the broader vision of revitalizing downtown Oranjestad. It aims to create a green, meaningful, and sustainable space for the community.

As March 18 approaches, this project symbolizes collaboration among government, youth, and community, reflecting a commitment to care for and beautify Aruba for future generations.
