Opening of SETAR Digital Week
ORANJESTAD – On October 20, 2025, the opening of SETAR Digital Week took place at SETAR’s headquarters in Seroe Blanco.
Minister of Housing, Infrastructure, and Telecommunications, Dr. Rene Herdé, attended the opening ceremony and congratulated SETAR for its pioneering role and continuous progress in telecommunications technology on a small island like Aruba.
In his speech, Minister Herdé emphasized that the theme of the day, “Digitization at Human Scale,” reflects an important focus: technology must serve to improve human life.
“Technology has an immense capacity to help us in all aspects of life. If we don’t make use of it, we miss an opportunity. E-learning is a clear example of how we can combine technological advancement with human progress,” said Minister Herdé.
He recalled that not long ago, an official would personally deliver a telegram to someone’s home, and calling family abroad required making an expensive collect call through an operator. “Today, we can call, send messages, and even video call with ease. This shows how the world has changed in an amazing way,” he added.
Minister Herdé stressed that Digital Week should encourage reflection on where Aruba stands today and what direction the country should take for the future.
“With the technological capacity we have today, what more can we do to serve people?”
According to the minister, all young people in Aruba must have access to technology to reach their educational potential. Integrating technology into the education curriculum is vital. “If we do not prepare the next generation for a digital world, we place them at a disadvantage in the race for progress,” he noted.
Minister Herdé concluded by wishing SETAR continued success and wisdom in leading Aruba’s technological development.
