Official start phase 1 of San Nicolas revitalization.
ORANJESTAD—On June 9, 2025, the government announced the official start of phase 1 of the bus station renovation project in San Nicolas.
The Minister of Justice, who is also the acting Minister of Infrastructure, Drs. Mr. Arthur Dowers, and the Minister of Finance, Economic Affairs, and Primary Sector, Mr. Geoffrey Wever, attended the ceremony.
Minister Dowers emphasized that the renovation of the bus station is more than just a construction project. San Nicolas deserves continued investment to provide the desired economic momentum. The first phase includes the entire bus station area's renovation divided into two parts.
The first part will last five to six weeks and includes
- Renovation and modernization of the bus station and area;
- A farmers market in the parking lot managed by Santa Rosa;
- Construction of a playground between the SETAR building and Post Aruba. Minister Dowers acknowledged that projects for San Nicolas have taken longer than desired in the past but indicated that this has changed, and the results are already visible.
Minister Wever explained that the government's vision is to lay the four-lane road, restore monuments, and revitalize cultural tourism."We're working to bring San Nicolas back to its glory years."
The bus station renovation is part of a comprehensive plan for the city's revitalization.
