Official Launch of the Third Edition of In The Picture with 20 Participants
ORANJESTAD – The official launch of the third edition of In The Picture took place during the kick-off event on August 20 at John F. Kennedy School.

The third edition has 20 participants, selected from clients of the Department of Social Affairs (DAS) who receive financial assistance or social support. Participation is mandatory and forms part of the guidance and support provided by DAS to strengthen participants’ position and prepare them for a return to the workforce. The program will officially begin on August 24, 2026.
In The Picture is an initiative of the Department of Social Affairs (DAS), jointly implemented with the Departamento Progreso Laboral (Department of Labor Development – DPL), under the guidance of Stichting JA-IK Aruba. The program focuses on the participants’ personal and professional development, strengthening their skills, and providing the necessary preparation for entering the workforce.
Results of the Second Edition
The results of the second edition demonstrate that progress is possible. In February 2026, 40 DAS clients registered to participate. Seven participants entered the workforce before the program even began. Of the remaining 33 participants, 12 succeeded in entering the workforce during the program. This means that a total of 19 participants took the step toward employment.
In addition, the program contributed to a positive change in the participants’ mindset, as well as to their personal development, motivation, determination, and preparation for the workforce.
These results confirm the value of a third edition and the importance of providing a new group of participants with opportunities to strengthen themselves and take steps toward greater independence and participation in the workforce.
During the kick-off, the Minister of Health, Social Affairs, Senior Citizens’ Affairs and Addiction Care, Drs. Melvin Wyatt-Ras, addressed the group:
“This program is not a punishment. See it as an opportunity to grow, discover your potential, and step outside your comfort zone. You do not have to have all the answers today; you just have to be willing to begin,” Minister Wyatt-Ras emphasized.
Minister Wyatt-Ras stated that social assistance should not be an endpoint, but rather a starting point for people to strengthen themselves and work toward greater independence.
She thanked DAS, DPL, Stichting JA-IK Aruba, all social workers, and all partners who contribute to creating concrete opportunities for the participants. She wished the new group every success and encouraged each participant to take the next step with courage, confidence, and a sense of responsibility.
