Noise reduction contributes to hearing care.

This is an old post.

ORANJESTAD – The Department of Public Health (DVG) urges everyone to follow the noise regulation's advice to help protect their hearing as Aruba enters its final week of Carnival.

What is a loud noise or a disturbing environment?

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), any noise lasting 1 minute or more at over 65 decibels (dB) during the day and 55 dB at night is considered loud noise or a disturbing environment.

How does loud noise affect all living beings?

Loud noise is a disturbing environment where sound affects how humans hear and perceive. Loud noise has a direct impact on hearing and the nervous system. Specifically, it can affect communication, sleep, and proper functioning.

The WHO recommends limiting noise exposure to a maximum of 53 dB per minute during the day and 45 dB per minute at night. For environmental noise with prolonged exposure, it should not exceed 85 dB for more than 8 hours; higher decibels and exposure increase the risk of hearing damage.

What are the decibel levels in different situations?

Check out our graph to better understand noise levels and the decibel index per minute for different sounds.

Let's protect our hearing and that of others—keep the noise level healthy for everyone. Be aware.
