New digital book in Papiamento.

ORANJESTAD— The Language Section of the Aruba Department of Education (DEA) announces the release of two new digital books in Papiamento for children, titled Cascabel den peliger! (Rattlesnakes in Danger!) and! Mondi di mangel na rescate! (Mangrove Forests to the Rescue).

These books combine stories with facts about our nature of Aruba.

The book E magia di barbulet (The Magic of Butterflies) was published in 2023, according to the same concept. The books are designed to raise awareness among children about the significance of caring for, protecting, and preserving the beauty of our natural environment and its diverse ecosystems. In this way, the books contribute to several Sustainable Development Goals, namely SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 14 (Life Underwater), and SDG 15 (Life on Land).

The books are for children ages 8 to 10, but younger or older children can also read them, depending on their reading level.

Rattlesnake in Danger! is written by Mili Arends. In this story, Jay and his sister Kimmy visit Arikok Park. There, they talk to a park ranger about the extremely frightening situation of our rattlesnake of Aruba.

Mangrove Forest to the Rescue! is written by Gina Ramsbottom. In this story, Sabrina and her cousin Jenny discovered who the monster of Mangel Alto is. It also explains exactly how the mangrove trees are going to save us.

There is an extensive collection of reading books for children and young people in Papiamento, published on www.papiamento.aw and www.ea.aw.
