Ministry of Elderly Affairs announces the Day Care Project "Pasadia"
ORANJESTAD - Pasadia is the name of the facility where elderly individuals aged 60 and above can spend their day and enjoy a social and active environment from morning until late evening.
This initiative arose due to a lack of elderly care capacity on our island. This results in many elderly individuals and their families facing significant challenges. Physical and mental deterioration, financial difficulties, and psychological stress are some of the effects observed in our community due to a lack of adequate care.
Daycare will be a great relief for our care system, especially for many people on the waiting list for the Aruba General Elderly Care Foundation (SABA) and for elderly individuals who wish to remain physically and socially active.
During the second edition of the National Forum for the Elderly, the Minister of Elderly Affairs, Ursell Arends, announced the government signed an Intent Declaration has been signed with various local stakeholders to establish the daycare project. SABA, FCCA, Cas Marie, and Buurtzorg Caribbean have provided space for the project and are eager to collaborate. Club Kibrahacha will play a role, as will the White Yellow Cross (WGK), which offers medical check-ups.
A significant aspect of the vision for elderly care policy is reducing the need for medication and transitioning to a more humane and social approach in our interactions with them and their care. This vision emphasizes the importance of treating them with the dignity and compassion they deserve.
