Ministry of Education Launches ‘Personalized Education’ Pilot Project at Juliana School MAVO
ORANJESTAD – The Ministry of Kingdom Relations, Education, Youth, Innovation and Sports, together with Juliana School MAVO and the Talent Development Scheme (TDS) of the Aruban Football Federation (AVB), has developed the innovative ‘Personalized Education Pilot Project.’
This initiative was established through a strategic partnership aimed at creating a harmonious balance between formal secondary education and the intensive development of elite sports talent among young soccer players in Aruba.
The program is based on the principle that education and elite sports should not compete with each other but rather complement one another. Its primary goal is to provide student-athletes with the opportunities and support they need to further develop their athletic talent without compromising their academic performance.
Through personalized guidance, each student-athlete will be assigned a mentor who will support them in planning and maintaining a healthy balance between school, training, competitions, and rest.
The program can be adapted through licensing to accommodate different educational levels. The learning pathway, pace, and academic schedule can be adjusted to align with each athlete’s sports calendar. In addition, the pilot project uses digital tools and learning analytics to closely monitor academic progress and provide timely support when students encounter challenges.
Juliana School, TDS staff, and the mentor will meet regularly to monitor and evaluate the student’s overall well-being and development.
A Pilot for the Future of Education
The ‘Personalized Education Pilot Project’ serves a dual purpose. On the one hand, it provides a sustainable educational solution for TDS athletes. On the other hand, it serves as an innovation laboratory for Aruba’s education system.
The experiences, evaluations, and knowledge gained throughout the project will serve as a foundation for the further development of personalized education, educational flexibility, and digitalization across more schools in Aruba.
The project can also serve as a model for the future development of education within Aruba’s Dutch education system, with the goal of transitioning toward a more digitalized and personalized educational system that better meets the individual needs and potential of students.

The launch of the ‘Personalized Education Pilot Project’ marks another step forward in strengthening education in Aruba and creating a forward-looking educational environment for current and future generations.
