Minister of Public Health impressed with FAVI's work

ORANJESTAD - As part of his ongoing commitment to strengthen our community's health and care sector, Minister of Public Health drs. Mervin Wyatt-Ras made a working visit to the Aruban Foundation for the Visually Impaired (FAVI), an institution dedicated to defending the dignity and autonomy of people who are blind or have a visual limitation.

During the visit last Tuesday, the director of FAVI, Ms. Cetty Baarh, gave the president a detailed presentation on the daily work and social impact that FAVI has on the lives of more than 450 clients, including some who have been receiving continuous support since 1974.

In 1974, FAVI was established as "Stichting Blindenzorg Aruba" and adopted its current name to better connect with the community and serve as an essential pillar for the visually impaired community. The goal of FAVI is to improve personal independence, promote social inclusion, and increase awareness in Aruba’s society on the issue of visual impairment.

Currently, FAVI has two teachers who offer out-of-home education adapted to young people with visual impairments, a team of supporters, and two social workers who provide support at home. Despite limited resources, this is executed by a dedicated staff.

The visit underscores the Ministry's vision to collaborate with non-governmental organizations to ensure no citizen is left behind, regardless of their physical condition.
