Kingdom Startup Program - Investing in Young Talent is Investing in Aruba’s Economic Future
ORANJESTAD – On July 15, 2026, State Secretary for Kingdom Relations and Digital Government Eric van der Burg attended a meeting with the participants of the Kingdom Startup Program (KSP) at the University of Aruba.
The Kingdom Startup Program is a six-week pilot program that brings together university students from Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten to develop innovative solutions for concrete challenges facing the islands. Through internationally recognized methodologies, combined with guidance from and collaboration with experts from the Caribbean region, the Netherlands, and the United States, participants develop business ideas that can contribute to a more diversified, competitive, and sustainable economy.
For the Minister of Finance, Economic Affairs, and Primary Sector, Geoffrey Wever, investing in trade and innovation is not just an investment in new businesses, but also in the ability of our own people to shape tomorrow's economy.
"A country cannot achieve sustainable development through infrastructure or financial investments alone. The most valuable resource we have is our people," said Minister Geoffrey Wever. "When we provide young people with the knowledge, opportunity, and confidence to create solutions, we are investing in a stronger, more innovative, and more resilient economy."
Strengthening the entrepreneurial ecosystem is one of the core pillars of the economic policy of the Ministry of Finance, Economic Affairs, and Primary Sector. Aruba must continue to cultivate the conditions that allow local talent to flourish, develop new ideas, and drive economic activity that generates future jobs and prosperity.
The Kingdom Startup Program illustrates how collaboration between the government, educational institutions, and the private sector can lead to initiatives that prepare the next generation of leaders. The program focuses on developing local solutions to challenges in areas such as healthcare, education, sustainability, and the digital economy, while encouraging participants to think in terms of innovation, leadership, and value creation.
The six participating teams had the opportunity to engage in a direct dialogue with State Secretary Van der Burg. They presented their projects, shared the progress they have made, and demonstrated how their initiatives can contribute to the economic future of their respective islands. The program also creates a unique platform to strengthen collaboration between Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten, fostering a shared sense of responsibility and development within the Kingdom.
Through initiatives like the Kingdom Startup Program, the government continues to lay the necessary foundations for a modern, dynamic, diversified, and resilient economy—one where local talent, Kingdom-wide collaboration, and innovation play a central role in Aruba's economic development for generations to come.
