Jurima Bryson sworn in as Aruba's first Ombudsman.

This is an old post.

ORANJESTAD – On Tuesday, October 1, 2024, Aruba introduced its first Ombudsman, Jurima Bryson (LL.M.).

It marks a historic day for Aruba, as the recruitment process for the Ombudsman has taken many years.

A member of parliament first proposed the idea of an Ombudsman in 1997, but the legislation did not materialize. After many years of tireless work, Aruba now has its Ombudsman.

Sahaira Kelly, acting as the quartermaster, was responsible for fully setting up the Ombudsman’s office and managing the project. Thanks to her diplomacy, knowledge, effort, and dedication, Aruba now has its Ombudsman.

Helping citizens who believe they are receiving unfair or unequal treatment, is the Ombudsman's responsibility. The Ombudsman is there to defend the people. Once someone files a complaint, they will initiate an investigation and send a recommendation to the government, which will follow the process according to the Ombudsman’s advice.
