John van der Zwan and Delegation in Aruba: Cooperation within the Kingdom Strengthens Crisis Preparedness
ORANJESTAD – Prime Minister Mike Eman received a delegation at his office that presented a report on the work carried out during the past period to strengthen Aruba’s preparedness for potential crisis situations.
The delegation, consisting of John van der Zwan, Joke Vroegop, and Johnson, a young Aruban professional working for the Dutch Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (Ministerie van Binnenlandse Zaken en Koninkrijksrelaties, or BZK), shared with the Prime Minister a report outlining the work completed and the recommendations resulting from the process.
The process began at a time when tensions between Venezuela and the United States were escalating, prompting the Government of Aruba to recognize the importance of ensuring that no potential scenario would catch the country unprepared. In that context, Prime Minister Eman requested support from the Netherlands in the form of additional expertise and knowledge in crisis preparedness and management.
The Netherlands responded positively to the request, and John van der Zwan made himself available to work with Aruba. During his stay, Van der Zwan worked closely with the Crisis Management Office (CMO) and various local professionals, combining expertise from across the Kingdom with local knowledge and an understanding of Aruba’s specific circumstances.
According to Prime Minister Eman, Aruba already has a strong reputation, both within the Kingdom and throughout the region, for its level of preparedness and its ability to respond to exceptional situations. However, crisis preparedness is an ongoing process.
“We may be well prepared, but there is always room for improvement. The goal is for our community, our institutions, and our professionals to prepare and train together so that, when a situation arises, nothing takes us by surprise,” the Prime Minister said.
An essential part of the next phase will be implementing the recommendations developed by Van der Zwan and his team in collaboration with local professionals. The Government will continue working with its various partners to strengthen coordination, training, and Aruba’s response capacity.
Prime Minister Eman expressed his gratitude to John van der Zwan, the local professionals, and the partners across the Kingdom who made this cooperation possible.
For the Government, this work is part of an ongoing commitment to keeping Aruba prepared—not only to respond when a crisis occurs, but, above all, to anticipate, practice, and work together before the need arises.
