It is advisable to obtain the yellow fever vaccine before traveling to certain destinations.
ORANJESTAD— The Department of Public Health (DVG) reminds all Aruba residents planning to travel to take necessary health measures before departure.
No matter the reason for your trip, whether for vacation, study, medical treatment, business, or adventure, you must protect your health during your stay outside Aruba until you return.
Travelers heading to specific countries in the Caribbean, South America, Central America, or Africa should consider getting the yellow fever vaccine. This vaccine provides lifelong immunity, and you must receive it at least 10 days before travel.
Countries at risk:
Caribbean: Trinidad and Tobago
South and Central America: Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, Venezuela, Paraguay, Panama, French Guiana, Guyana, Suriname
Africa: Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Sudan, Togo, Uganda,
Important information:
- All travelers must be vaccinated if they are going to or staying more than 24 hours in one of the countries mentioned above.
- If you have received the vaccine in the past and have your yellow book (proof of vaccination), you do not need to get the vaccine again.
- If you do not have the yellow book but have received the vaccine in Aruba, you can get a duplicate worth Afl. 10.
- The vaccine is not recommended for the following groups: children under 9 months of age, adults over 60 years, pregnant women or those planning to become pregnant in the near future, immunocompromised individuals, and anyone with severe allergies to components of the vaccine (such as eggs).
Where and how to get the vaccine:
- Make your appointment no less than 10 days before traveling by calling 5224200.
- On the day of your appointment, go to the Infectious Diseases Section, Avicenastraat #1 (behind the main DVG building).
- Bring your valid identification.
- The cost of the vaccine is Afl. 31,- and can only be paid via swipe or online transfer.
- Cash or credit cards are not accepted.
