International Breastfeeding Week 2026

ORANJESTAD – International Breastfeeding Week is officially celebrated from August 1 through August 7.

On this occasion, the Department of Public Health is sharing valuable information on this important topic.

Why Do We Highlight This Week?

This week is celebrated to raise awareness about the importance of breastfeeding, protect mothers' right to breastfeed freely, and promote the health benefits it offers to both baby and mother.

It is also a call to action for families, employers, and the entire community to create a supportive environment where every mother can comfortably reach her breastfeeding goals.

The theme for 2026 is: "Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works."

By breastfeeding, we give our children a strong start in life. Breastfeeding contributes to a healthier, more sustainable future for our entire community.

Raising Children with Breast Milk:

  • Creates a valuable bond between baby and mother.
  • Is free and provides the perfect, complete, and natural nutrition.

If this method has been working since the beginning of human existence, we must strengthen it—it is proof that it works.

Tip for Society and Families:

Create supportive spaces at home, in the workplace, and in public areas. It is not just the mother's responsibility, but a shared responsibility for all of us!

With breast milk, babies have everything they need: nutrition, protection, and love!
