Influenza vaccination available in the neighborhood

ORANJESTAD – The Department of Public Health (DVG) informs the public that, as in previous years, the DVG bus—in collaboration with the Crisis Management Office (CMO)—will visit various neighborhoods to provide the influenza vaccine. This initiative aims to facilitate access, especially for individuals who belong to a risk group.

The vaccination bus will be present from 8:30 to 11:30 am on the following dates and locations:

  • Tuesday, October 20, 2026: IMSAN
  • Wednesday, October 21, 2026: Centro di Bario Playa Pabao
  • Thursday, October 22, 2026: Centro Deportivo Santa Cruz
  • Friday, October 23, 2026: Frans Figaroa Stadium

For whom is influenza vaccination recommended? Influenza vaccination is especially important for people who are at increased risk of serious complications if they contract the virus. This includes:

  • Persons aged 60 years or older;
  • Adults between 18 and 59 years who belong to a medical risk group;
  • Adults and children at high medical risk, for example, people with a serious immune disorder;
  • Persons who, due to their medical condition or treatment, have received an indication from their family doctor, specialist, or pediatrician for vaccination;
  • Pregnant women who meet the medical criteria for vaccination;
  • Care workers who have direct contact with patients, especially vulnerable patients;
  • Bedridden citizens who cannot visit a vaccination site in person.

Bedridden Citizens

Citizens who are bedridden and, due to their condition, cannot travel to a vaccination site can call DVG at 522-4200 to make an appointment for vaccination.

Who can get the vaccine for free?

  • People aged 60 or over can get the vaccine free of charge and must bring their AZV card.
  • People under 60 who belong to a medical risk group must bring their AZV card and a doctor's prescription to get the vaccine.

Do you want to buy the vaccine?

Persons who are not eligible for a free vaccination, but who wish to be vaccinated against influenza, can purchase the vaccine for Afl. 20.00 at the Infectious Diseases Section of DVG, between 1:30 and 3:30 pm. Please note that vaccines cannot be purchased at the neighborhood bus.

DVG invites all persons belonging to a risk group to take advantage of this opportunity and get vaccinated at the location nearest them.
Influenza is more than just the common cold; it can cause serious complications, especially in vulnerable individuals. Vaccination helps reduce the risk of severe illness and complications.
