In connection with the celebration of Colombia's Independence Day, the 'Serenata Vallenata' was held at the National Library of Aruba

This is an old post.

ORANJESTAD - On July 18, 2024, the National Library, Petronio Alvarez International Foundation, and the Department of Culture organized a 'Serenata Vallenata' in connection with the celebration of Colombia's Independence Day on July 20.

At the beginning of the event, Minister of Culture Xiomara Maduro spoke, and she pointed out the strong ties of brotherhood between Aruba and Colombia. She stressed that they are family ties since 10% of our population is born in Colombia. Regarding music, she indicated that the music Vallenato is very popular with Arubans as well, and several Arubans have written and composed Vallenato songs successfully.

John Freddy Montoya of the Aruban Department of Culture choreographed a stunning dance to round off the evening.
The International Petronio Alvarez Foundation, in collaboration with Mrs. Glenda Zavala Maduro, the driving force behind this musical cultural exchange between Aruba and Colombia, also honored several individuals in Aruba who promoted the popularity of Vallenato music.

A cultural exchange with a beautiful presentation of the accordionist of La Guajira, Mrs. Indira Fernández, followed, where she and some musicians from Aruba and Colombia delighted those present with music of Colombian folklore.
