How good is Aruba prepared in case of another pandemic?
ORANJESTAD - Recently, representatives from Wageningen University in the Netherlands were in Aruba to conduct research aimed at assessing the risks of developing infectious diseases in Aruba and, at the same time, evaluating how Aruba can prepare in the event of an epidemic or pandemic resulting from such diseases.
This research focuses on four infectious disease groups, including those transmitted through water or air, animal-borne diseases (zoonoses), and blood-borne diseases (vector-borne diseases).
The research aims to assist those working on management and stimulate cooperation between stakeholders to prepare for possible outbreaks of infectious diseases on our island. The research was carried out in collaboration with the University of Aruba, and the results are expected to lead to the development of a project in the Caribbean focused on 'how Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao are preparing to face a potential pandemic.'
