His Wish Becomes Reality: William Bergen Barlow Meets the Government of Aruba
ORANJESTAD — The wish of William Bergen Barlow, a young visitor from Ontario, Canada, became reality when he fulfilled his dream of visiting Aruba, thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
On Friday evening, November 7, during the annual Christmas light ceremony at the Govermen Building, William had the honor of switching on the lights alongside Prime Minister Mike Eman, Minister Wendrick Cicilia, and other government representatives. The event marked the official start of the holiday season for the Government.
William and his family were also invited to tour the government building Cocolishi, where they met various government officials and learned more about the daily work of the Government of Aruba.
During the visit, Minister Cicilia presented William with a symbolic gift representing courage and perseverance, qualities William has shown in facing significant health challenges. He also met the Minister of Justice, Arthur Dowers, and explored several departments at Cocolishi.
Impressed by the island’s natural beauty and the hospitality of its people, William described Aruba as “gorgeous.” He expressed admiration for both the island’s history and the warmth of the Aruban community.
This was William’s first visit to Aruba. Like many first-time visitors, he was captivated by the crystal-clear waters surrounding the island and enjoyed spending time at the beach, where he was able to swim and relax.
In addition to participating in the lighting ceremony, William shared his gratitude for the opportunity to visit Aruba. “I love Aruba,” he said. Despite ongoing health challenges and frequent hospitalizations, he remains curious about different cultures and eager to experience new places.
As part of his visit, William will also take part in Aruba’s reforestation efforts by planting a tree, a lasting symbol of his connection to the island and the memories he created during his stay.
