Governor Receives Expert Group on the Kingdom's Democratic Deficit

ORANJESTAD – On Monday, June 22, the Governor of Aruba, His Excellency Alfonso Boekhoudt, received the Expert Group on the Kingdom's Democratic Deficit for an audience at the Governor's Ceremonial House.

Present at the meeting were Dr. Aubrich Bakhuis, member representing Curaçao and Chair of the Expert Group; Prof. Dr. Leonard Besselink, member representing the Netherlands; Mr. Johan Sjiem Fat, member representing Aruba; Dr. Rachnilda Arduin, member representing Sint Maarten; and Secretary Gytha Boerwinkel, LL.M.

The Expert Group on the Kingdom's Democratic Deficit is a research group of independent experts mandated by the Interparliamentary Kingdom Consultation (IPKO). At the request of IPKO, the group is inventorying and analyzing both new and existing proposals aimed at reducing the democratic deficit within the Kingdom.

This week, the Expert Group is undertaking a working visit to the Caribbean countries of the Kingdom. The visit is intended to facilitate introductions and to gather information for the research.
