Government Signs MoU with Oranjestad Investors Group

ORANJESTAD – During a reception organized by the ambassadors on October 9 at Fort Zoutman, Prime Minister Eman, Minister of Finance, Economic Affairs, and Primary Sector Geoffrey Wever, Minister of Justice, Integration, and Public Transport Arthur Dowers, and Minister of Tourism, Transport, and Labor Wendrick Cicilia, together with representatives of the Oranjestad Investors Group, Mr. Elton Arends and Mr. Harry Koeman, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the comprehensive improvement of the main street (Caya Grandi).

Recently, Minister Herdé, accompanied by Minister Wever and several Oranjestad investors, conducted a tour of Caya Grandi to review significant investments currently being made, as well as future development plans for several buildings. Multiple private projects are already underway in the area, with more in the pipeline. The discussions focused not only on investment opportunities but also on essential needs such as infrastructure upgrades, tree maintenance, and overall cleanliness. The tour covered the main street area, including Djiespie’s Place and Wilhelminastraat.

With the investors’ plans in mind, the government can now better align its efforts for Caya Grandi to create greater synergy and efficiency. Recently, the government allocated an additional one million florins for the renovation of Wilhelminastraat and Klipstraat, projects discussed with investors during the tour.

The government encourages private investment in the city center and emphasizes the need for strong relationships with investors. Active collaboration between the government and the private sector is crucial to achieving results more quickly than if each party worked independently. While investors focus on restoring buildings, the government plays a vital role in improving complementary aspects such as street lighting, parking spaces, area maintenance, tree planting, safety, and the permitting process.

During his speech, Prime Minister Eman emphasized the importance of dialogue and partnership, stating:

“It is important to maintain open communication and ensure that the government and investors are aligned on the essential elements required for the revitalization of Oranjestad. Our capital, Oranjestad, symbolizes the deep connection between Aruba and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.”

With this agreement, the shared vision for a revitalized Oranjestad gains renewed momentum, paving the way for accelerated progress.
