Government Launches "National Day of Care for Aruba" to Strengthen Shared Responsibility for Our Island

ORANJESTAD – The Government of Aruba has officially launched the "National Day of Care for Aruba" initiative. This national campaign invites all citizens, businesses, schools, organizations, and communities to work together in caring for our island.

The initiative will culminate in a major nationwide cleanup effort on Saturday, July 25, spanning every corner of Aruba.

The announcement was made during a press conference at Dam di Moko by Prime Minister Mike Eman. He was joined by Minister of Tourism, Transportation, and Labor Wendrick Cicilia, Director of Serlimar Michel Henriquez, Director of CEDE Aruba Daniel Tecklenborg, representatives from DOW, and various partners involved in the initiative.

In his statement, Prime Minister Mike Eman indicated that this national initiative is the next step in the government's ongoing efforts over the past year to enhance care for neighborhoods and public spaces. "On July 25, we want everyone in Aruba to step out of their homes, neighborhoods, businesses, clubs, or organizations to collectively take responsibility for keeping our island clean." The Prime Minister recalled that the government has already introduced several initiatives, such as Baki den Bario and the permanent waste zone in Barcadera. Additionally, a second permanent collection point for the community will open soon, thanks to a partnership between the government and Serlimar.

It was also announced that Ecotech will contribute to the national effort by accepting waste free of charge when brought to the permanent location in Barcadera on the day of the event. This collaboration is a significant contribution toward encouraging participation from both the community and the business sector.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the daily work of DOW, Serlimar, the City Inspection Bureau, and other agencies alone is not enough to keep Aruba clean. "This campaign is meant to show that we are all willing to carry a share of the responsibility for caring for our country. Aruba belongs to all of us. If we all do our part, we can maintain an island that is beautiful to live in and beautiful to visit."

Over the past few weeks, the government has also consulted with various stakeholders within the public interest platform. A call to action has been extended to neighborhood organizations, NGOs, foundations, and various community groups to organize their own cleanup activities on July 25.

The government calls upon all citizens to actively participate on Saturday, July 25. Waste containers will be available at various locations across Aruba for trash disposal, allowing families, clubs, and organizations to be part of this major national effort.

With the slogan "For me. For you. For all of us.", the government invites all of Aruba to join forces and make the National Day of Care for Aruba an expression of pride, responsibility, and love for our island.
