Government commemorates International Day of Pregnancy and Infant Loss
ORANJESTAD - On October 15, the government of Aruba held a solemn ceremony in front of the Government Office to commemorate International Day of Pregnancy and Infant Loss.
International Day of Pregnancy and Infant Loss is a global healthcare event commemorated annually on October 15 to raise awareness of pregnancy loss, sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), and infant mortality, including pregnancy loss, stillbirth, and newborn mortality.
On this day, communities around the world unite to honor and commemorate all the little lives lost too soon. International Day of Pregnancy and Infant Loss is a time to show empathy, love, and solidarity with all parents who have lost a child during pregnancy or in the first months of life.
For many families, the loss of a child is a pain beyond words. It is a silent pain that often remains hidden but deserves the understanding and respect of our community. The government has invited everyone to take a moment of reflection, light a candle, and join the wave of world light, a symbol of love, remembrance, and hope.
Tonight, Minister Gerlien Croes of Kingdom Relations, Education, Youth, Innovation, and Sport and Prime Minister Mike Eman took the floor to express their support for all those who have experienced this trauma, such as the loss of a newborn or the lifeless birth of their child.
This day is meant to give strength to those who have lost a child, to show that they are not alone and that everyone can contribute to an atmosphere of understanding and support. Every life, no matter how short, leaves a deep impression on our hearts.
On this day, we must be able to open the conversation on this topic, listen to those who have experienced this trauma, and create a community based on love, respect, and hope.
At the end of the solemn ceremony, wine and blue lights were lit on the facade of the Government Office. This is in memory of the babies who did not have a chance in life, but also to raise awareness of the importance of providing support to those who have lost their baby.
