GKMB has a crucial role in public health.
ORANJESTAD—On Wednesday, May 7, Minister of Public Health, Social Affairs, Elderly Care, and Addict Care, drs. Mervin Wyatt-Ras attended a presentation at the Yellow Fever Mosquito Control GKMB.
GKMB is an essential government entity under the Department of Public Health. Its task is ensuring the mitigation of the presence of mosquitoes in Aruba, especially the variants that can be a threat to public health. They concentrate their efforts mainly on areas of high risk of breeding but also contagion, such as hotels, residential areas, and mangrove areas.
During the last years, the number of diseases such as Chikungunya, Zika, and Dengue was not alarming in Aruba, given the effective awareness campaigns by GKMB, but also thanks to the fact that there was not much rain.
