Flu vaccine available in neighborhoods

ORANJESTAD — The Public Health Service (DVG) informs the public that the flu vaccine will be available in neighborhoods starting November 5th for people at increased risk of serious illness from the flu.

This group includes adults aged 60 and older, as well as people under 60 with chronic illnesses or health conditions that weaken their immune systems.

Adults aged 60 and older are eligible for the flu vaccine and do not need a prescription from their doctor. Seniors can visit our Mobile Neighborhood Vaccination Unit or the Infectious Diseases Department, located at Avicenastraat 1 (behind the DVG building), Monday through Friday from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM. Please only bring your AZV pass.

People under 60 with a chronic illness or weakened immune system can also be vaccinated free of charge, but must present a prescription from their doctor. Please bring the prescription and your doctor's AZV (Association of Health Insurance) card. For patients with mobility limitations (e.g., wheelchair users), DVG offers a drive-thru vaccination service. Upon arrival, the family member or caregiver must complete the administrative procedure. A nurse from the department will then come out to administer the vaccine in the car.

Bedridden patients can call 522-4200 to register for the home vaccination. A nurse from the Infectious Diseases department will call back to schedule an appointment.

People under 60 who do not have a chronic illness but would like to receive the flu vaccine will be informed later this week when the vaccine is available.
