Flu Season 2025/2026

ORANJESTAD – The Infectious Diseases Department of the Department of Public Health (DVG) has recently received many questions from the community regarding the availability of the flu vaccine for the 2025/2026 season.

DVG informs the public that the vaccine has not yet arrived, but it is on the way. As soon as the vaccine becomes available, the community will be notified immediately. The vaccination campaign will then begin, with priority given to high-risk groups across Aruba’s neighborhoods.

The Importance of Vaccination

Influenza is much more than “just a flu.” According to the World Health Organization (WHO), influenza causes approximately 290,000 deaths worldwide each year due to respiratory complications.

Severe complications are most common among:

  • Very young children;
  • adults with multiple health conditions;
  • older adults (60+);
  • pregnant women.

The flu season runs annually from October through May. For this reason, DVG organizes its vaccination campaign during this period each year, focusing especially on protecting the most vulnerable members of our community.
